Kicking it for Christ – MLS DC United’s Taylor Kemp joins CAC!

    September 17, 2018, 2:21 pm

Major League Soccer’s DC United soccer star Taylor Kemp, a new addition to CAC’s lineup, recently spoke to Bishop O’Connell High School athletes in Arlington, Va., at their annual sports retreat led by Athletic Director Joe Wootten and Chaplain Father Gregory Thompson.

Kemp shared on-the-field stories from his collegiate, professional  and national team experiences and also the the story of his recent conversion to Catholicism.  Kemp poignantly explained to the interested athletes how he had reached every athletic goal he had set and still felt incredibly empty and unfulfilled.  It was then, in a tearful moment, he felt the call to Christ and His church.  Taylor entered the Church three year ago and jumped in with both feet.  He is completing a graduate degree in theology from the Augustine Institute and feels a strong mandate to evangelize.  CAC is excited to have Taylor join our team!

Read more about his story in the National Catholic Register article by Trent Beattie (www.ncregister.com/daily-news/d.c.-united-defender-too-blessed-to-be-stressed) and watch Taylor’s conversion story below.

Are You Ready for Some Football?

NFL Catholic Fun Fact:  The Green Bay Packers held their summer training camp at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis., for 61 years, the longest such relationship between a pro football team and a college in the NFL.  Russ Bogda (then-president of the Packers) and Lisle Blackbourn (then-head coach) first approached St. Norbert College in the spring of 1957. At the time, the Packers were headquartering at UW-Stevens Point. In the summer of 1958, Coach Scooter McLean and his staff brought the Packers to the St. Norbert campus’ Frank J. Sensenbrenner Residence Hall, to various classrooms for training sessions, and to the dining facilities on the river bank. Over the 58 years, the string of successive summers at St. Norbert College has NEVER been broken. In 1959, newly appointed head Coach Vincent Lombardi confirmed the summer camp location and formed a friendship with father Dennis Burke, O. Praem. Succeeding coaches and Packer Presidents over the years have found the facilities to their liking.

Catholic Athletes for Christ’s (CAC) Vin Scully Rosary CD was featured in a full-length article in the latest issue of the National Catholic Register.  Click here to read the article.
In September 2016, CAC, in collaboration with Immaculate Heart Radio, released a two-CD audio recording of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary narrated by legendary hall of fame sportscaster Vin Scully.
Scully is best known for his work as the play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has been with the team since its days in Brooklyn and in 2016, Scully completed his 67th and final season with the Dodgers – the longest time any broadcaster has been with a single team in professional sports history.
The two-CD recording includes meditations and prayers for all four mysteries (Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous) as well as a rosary meditation based on St. John Paul II’s 2002 Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae.
This recording is available as a two-CD set from CAC (see link to purchase below)for $15.00 + $3.50 s/h. It is also available for digital download on Apple iTunes, Amazon Music, and other major digital distribution sites (pricing determined by vendors). MLB Great Trevor Hoffman Meets With Pope Francis in Rome

    October 23, 2017, 12:42 pm

Pope Francis, who is charged with saving the souls of more than 1 billion Catholics, had the chance to meet a fellow Catholic who is also in the “salvation business.”  CAC’s good friend Trevor Hoffman and wife Tracy met with the Pope Francis in Rome last week.  Hoffman, who is a devout Catholic and one of the greatest MLB relief pitchers of all time, was honored and touched with great emotion to meet the Holy Father.   Hoffman, who recorded 601 saves during his 18-year MLB career and is considered a likely candidate for induction into the MLB Hall of Fame next summer, was thrilled to be in such close proximity to Pope Francis.  Trevor provided the Pope with a San Diego Padres jersey with the Holy Father’s name on the back.
